On Monday, April 27th, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (D-WA) visited with the Snoqualmie Tribal Council at Snoqualmie Falls.
Representing Washington’s 1st district since 2012, Representative DelBene has been a stalwart advocate on numerous Tribal initiatives in Congress including the Violence Against Women Act of 2013, and the General Welfare Exclusion Act of 2014.
During her visit, Representative DelBene met with Tribal Council before being traditionally welcomed to the Snoqualmie Falls by the Tribe’s cultural staff with a Tribal Welcome Song.
The Congresswoman covered many topics with the Tribal Council including the work of the 114th United States Congress, and current proposed legislation related to tribes. The Tribal Council also discussed their efforts to preserve the Snoqualmie Falls, including fighting to prevent possible further development that will harm the natural beauty of the Falls and the surrounding area.
“It is always an honor to host at our home in Snoqualmie the federal leaders who support Native Americans,” Tribal Council Member Lois Sweet Dorman said. “When speaking about the Falls, we say ‘For All People, For All Time.’ It is our responsibility to continue our work sharing the importance of the Falls to the Snoqualmie Tribal people and local community, as well as to ensure no further development takes place at this irreplaceable landmark.”
